Ranking Will Ferrell's 5 Funniest Films
While we are all stuck in quarantine, there may be a shortage of things to do. If you love streaming a bunch of movies or TV (which I’m sure many of you do), then consider some comedy!
A good laugh is a strong medicine during these tough times and who better to provide it than hilarious actor Will Ferrell! The 52-year-old has provided a countless number of comedy films throughout the years that have been both memorable and funny!
Though there were so many to choose from, here is a ranking of the popular actor’s five funniest films:
5. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell) has only dreamed of being a racer his entire life. Now middle-aged, Bobby puts himself one step closer to that dream by emerging as a substitute driver during a NASCAR race, finishing with favorable results.
This leads the once unknown, but aspiring driver to hit the spotlight. Within a matter of time, Ricky’s close chum Cal (John C. Reilly) joins him on the pavement and both zoom to victories. With the addition of yet another racer named Jean Girard (Sacha Baron Cohen) to their arsenal, Bobby has quickly found himself pushed aside.
The racer subsequently crashes and burns (figuratively) when he’s booted out of his racing team. This leads the former star to go in a hilarious downward spiral that sees him delivering pizzas via bike! Soon after, Ricky’s deadbeat father Reese (Gary Cole) makes a rare appearance and vows to turn him into a star again. Can the seemingly helpless protagonist rev up his motivation and drive his confidence through the roof?
4. Get Hard (2015)
James King (Will Ferrell) is living a lavish life: he has money, high status, and a hot fiancé. That all comes crashing down when he’s convicted of fraud, an offense that lands him in the slammer for 10 years.
With no clue about what’s going to happen to him, King turns to Darnell (Kevin Hart), a car wash worker, for advice on how to survive prison (James assumes Darnell’s been there when he’s not).
With some cash to sweeten the offer, the mild-mannered Darnell becomes King’s new “teacher.” Hysterically, the car wash guy is clueless about how to be a macho guy and toughen up James, as he is getting yelled at by his own wife most times!
Nevertheless, the two engage in a hilarious training regime aimed to help James, which includes courtyard basketball confrontations, learning to fend for yourself, and even King joining a real gang.
The duo keeps training until they learn that James may be getting framed. Can they use all their training to track down the real criminal?
3. Semi-Pro (2008)
Singer Jackie Moon (Will Ferrell) has a proud moment when he buys the ABA’s Flint Tropics, a basketball team. Things may not stay so sweet for long when the ABA is slated to shut down and only a few teams will remain.
To save his Tropics, Moon successfully lobbies for a tournament where the best teams from the association can stay and join the NBA. The problem is, he needs his team to develop some cohesion while also rallying some fans to show up to games. This enables some hilarious consequences as Moon tries to recruit aficionados to Tropics games through ridiculous events like wrestling bears.
Can these men in short-shorts make one last stand and get their team to the promised league?
2. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
Renowned San Diego news anchorman Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) finds his world turned upside down when a new anchor named Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) messes with his fame and status. This comes after the two have a romantic relationship.
The reckless Ron engages in a war of shenanigans with Veronica over who has the better skills but ends up hilariously getting fired after misreading the teleprompter (in which he insults the town). Watch as the legendary Burgundy (who’s now an average joe on the streets) tries to save his career and claim the anchoring throne once again!
1. Step Brothers (2008)
Two middle-aged men living with their parents are displeased when they learn they will be step brothers (because one’s mom is marrying the other’s dad). For Brennan Huff (Will Ferrell) and Dale Doback (John C. Reilly), this leads to a clash between two nutty, immature, and unemployed adults.
After their tomfooleries against each other are discovered by Dale’s father Robert (Richard Jenkins), the two are forced to finally find a job. Fortunately, the duo finds a common enemy in Brennan’s prosperous brother Derek (Adam Scott) and thus begins a friendship.
Now, these two “loving” step brothers try to win in life by getting their own place and making their own music in hopes of turning it into a great business. Bumps in the road are imminent, including a potential divorce between the pair’s parents. Can these goofy chumps turn the lives of their entire family around?
