Best Disney Channel Movies from the 2000s

The mid 2000s days when many college students were still enjoying responsibility-free summers seems like ages ago. There was a lot of influence on this age group from the latest gadgets, snacks, to TV shows and movies. Disney and Nickelodeon were big components of young lives back then, helping create lifelong memories of good shows, movies, and characters. Disney movies were very hyped too, with watch parties and so much promotions. Those were easier times that many of us wish we could return into. To bring back some nostalgia, here are some Disney Movies from the 2000s that were quite memorable:

Camp Rock (2008)

In the late 2000s, Disney released Camp Rock, like the High School Musical series, but with Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers instead. Lovato, who plays Mitchie Torres, spends a summer at Camp Rock, a camp focused on music. Along the way to the Final Jam contest of the summer, Torres meets friends and enemies, including close pal Caitlyn Gellar, Connect 3 band member Shane Gray, and enemy Tess Tyler, among others. The members of the camp become tight and some great songs are part of the movie. It’s a musically themed film with an ensemble cast, and one of the most advertised movies of the decade. The cast reprises their role in Camp Rock 2, which released in 2010.

Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009)

A film made from the popular series on Disney Channel, the Wizards of Waverly Place cast made a compelling movie that was highly anticipated on Disney Channel. The series revolves around a family of wizards, who have special powers to conduct spells that normal humans cannot do. The film centers around a family vacation for the Russo family, mother and father Theresa and Jerry, and their kids, intellectual son Justin, mastermind daughter Alex, and clumsy son Max. However, the vacation takes a major turn for the worse when daughter Alex makes a wish for her parents to have never gotten married right after a terrible argument. Unknown to her, the wish comes true, and now the kids are forced to fix a major catastrophe, with minimal help and time running out, all while being in a foreign location. It’s an adventure to see how the kids can bring back their parents’ memories and make their family in equilibrium once again.

High School Musical 2 (2007)

Like Camp Rock, the High School Musical series was a large success on Disney Channel in the 2000s. Though the third installment did not air on the channel, the first two did and the second one was very highly anticipated. The entire Summer 2007 was promotional advertising for this film, which featured plenty of dancing, singing, and a young Zac Efron. Aside from the music, the film’s central plot focuses around summer break at East High School and the commitments that will arise for main characters Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens), Ryan Evans (Lucas Grabeel), Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale), Chad Danforth (Corbin Bleu), and Taylor McKessie (Monique Coleman). With a star-studded cast and plenty of drama and music, this series was a Disney Channel film staple in the 2000s, and quite possibly the most popular film series.

Minutemen (2008)

Minutemen is a film about three high schoolers who are on the outside of the most exclusive social circles and try to find a way to become school celebrities. Characters Virgil Fox, Charlie Tuttle, and Zeke Thompson are all in desperate need of some respect and recognition, which is solved by Tuttle creating a time machine and the trio going back in time when needed to fix any mistakes or lend a helping hand to anybody who has gotten themselves in a sticky situation. However, to keep their identities concealed, the trio wears white suits, leaving them completely anonymous, to others’ chagrin. The new nickname the trio garners, the “Snowsuit Guys,” becomes a famous name around the school as they continue to come in clutch.

This list may start to stir up old memories of your childhood, but it seeks to remind you how easy and enjoyable life was back then. Of course, there were plenty of movies on other channels, such as Nick. There are even some other Disney films that were popular, such as the Cheetah Girls series, Starstruck, and Princess Protection Program. Though these films may be hard to find on streaming services nowadays, the nostalgia from remembering them will never wear down for avid Disney viewers. In times of many responsibilities such as college, reminiscing of these films can serve as a time machine that helps you eliminate stress.
